Sakaiminato is the hometown of a cartoonist Shigeru Mizuki. The 800-meter street starting from JR Sakaiminato station to the Mizuki Shigeru Museum is called "Mizuki Shigeru Road". 315 bronze statues of youkai from the Japanese manga "GeGeGe no Kitaro" line both sides of the road.
